these are a few of my favorite things...

School's out! Which means I've been busy cleaning the classroom, my house, my wardrobe- everything! I'm in full-on clean all of the things mode! This is a great problem to have, but I'm slowly finding things to replace all of the things I'm clearing out- which is wonderful for my happiness, but terrible for my wallet... if ya know what I mean! ;)

At the end of the year I told my kiddos if they worked really hard in reading we'd have a reading beach party- and they met the goal! I can't post any of the fo' real party pictures because they all have littles in them- but here's one of me stoked with a beach ball!

My kiddos and staff were so sweet at the end of the year. Most of the things they gave me had pineapples on them- and I cannot complain one bit!!! The nugget who gave me this lovely said "It's a pineapple! Because you love pineapples!" and homegirl isn't wrong! One of the teacher's aides who spent a large part of the year in my class gave me the water bottle and doormat-which are both adding to the pineapple home decor at my house-which I'm sure my roommates love...

One of our roommates from last year moved out but couldn't take a lot of her furniture with her, so she left it at the house-which was fine with us- because we didn't have to get replacement furniture. Until this year, because she's getting married and needs it back. So, I've spent the last few weeks rounding up furniture- and having a blast doing it! So far I've scored this leather couch for $200, a solid table and chairs for $100, and these super cute (shocker-pineapple) string lights for $3. Killin 'the game, over here.

Other faves? This dress from Old Navy (exact unavailable, similar here),
these crochet Toms I scored for EIGHT dollars on Poshmark. They still had the tags on them, people.

and this planner that I'm so excited to use next year. I've been stalking Me & My Big Ideas planners since last year and have wanted one for my teacher planner. When they announced the arrival of their teacher planners I jumped on the chance to have one and then Lord bless Michaels, because they had a planner sale. I got the box kit of my planner (retail $40) for $23. The day it was released. I still can't believe it.

What are your favorite purchases lately?

California 2017

We went to California in May, and it was an experience!! I tried to surprise Ry with this trip, but ended up having to tell him about it since it was during a busy time in the term for him. We flew out on a Friday night, but because of a delay didn't end up getting to LA until 1 in the morning or so. We'd planned to Uber to our hotel, but decided mid-flight we wanted to rent a car instead (which was an ordeal being under 25, and at 1am...)

Since we'd be leaving Sunday afternoon we planned to squeeze the bulk of our 'to do list' into Saturday- which was awesome even in the rain. It figures that we would leave Oregon when it was warm and 80 degrees to go to California in the rain. That's just our luck.

We spent a lot of time wandering around the sidewalks and looking at the stars- which was so fun! It was really cool to see so many names on the ground and we pointed out several of our faves throughout the morning. We spent the bulk of our time in Hollywood just doing this, we almost toured the Dolby theater but missed the tour start time and didn't feel like waiting for the next one.

I snagged a drink at Starbucks and saw this quote in the window which I thought was cool, and then we moved on!

 Beverly Hills
I was super excited to go to Beverly Hills and seek Rodeo Drive. My mom and I always talked about Rodeo drive being super ritzy when I was little, and I was so excited to go there. It was definitely worth it. We talked about how we should've dressed fancier to fit in, and how our nice and new Toyota rental looked like a beater compared to the several fancy cars we saw casually parked around. It was insane.

The hotel behind me in this picture is the hotel that Pretty Woman was filmed in! I was super stoked about that, and we actually went inside. There was a door man. That's probably not a huge deal, but I  had never seen one in real life.

Santa Monica

Our last stop for the day was in Santa Monica, and we had a blast! We walked through tons of shops, went to Creams & Dreams, which is an ice cream shop where the ice cream is made using liquid nitrogen. I'd never heard of this before, but it was so good and awesome to watch!

After a while we made our way to the beach (where people were selling fidget spinners... go figure... and rode the Ferris wheel. I loved the Ferris wheel, even though it was open, nine stories high, and windy. Would definitely go to Santa Monica again.

Overall, it was a great trip and we walked a TON on Saturday.

On Saturday night we logged on to check in to our flight, which was on-time and then looked up LAX's food options so we could plan where we'd grab lunch. On LAX's website we saw that our flight (which minutes before read on time) was actually cancelled. We (well, I...) panicked and scrambled to make a backup flight home... at 6am... but all was well. And we made it. :)

Hawaii 2017

We went to a Hawaii over spring break and I never even posted the pictures! Worst blogger ever. This year we went to Oahu again, and I swear every year I love it more and more. Just don't tell Ry that, because I don't think I could live there permanently...

The Dole Plantation is always one of my favorite places to visit. It's very touristy, but I'm a tourist so it's okay! There are pineapples everywhere (which is probably why I love it so much) and the pineapple ice cream is the best ice cream ever. This year was the first year I spotted the giant pineapple above, but I will probably have to visit it every time I go now.

This year our hotel also offered poolside drinks made IN A PINEAPPLE. The smoothie in here was ten times better because of the cup. Fact.

I'm not a big souvenir fan, but I always find cute things shopping in Hawaii that I never see at home. Probably just a coincidence, but oh whale! I snagged these lace accented shorts for $9 at a Ross in Waikiki and found this super adorable beach hat as well for $10 or so. I think those are the only things I bought the whole trip... other than coffee. ;)

Another favorite of ours is the Diamond Head hike. The first time I did this hike was with Ry, and I got sunburnt! That part wasn't fun, but I really enjoyed it. So, the next year I brought my family too and my dad was super pumped that he made it to the top (including these awful stairs) just a few months after his stroke recovery. This year we went a third time, and it felt easier! So that's good for us! Especially considering this is probably the biggest workout Ive done... all year. Whoops..

There are so many awesome things to do in Hawaii. We ate at amazing restaurants, got acas bowls and coffee from everywhere, and just roamed shops and beaches for days. So so fun.

Have you been to Hawaii? What're your favorite things to do? Any favorites from other islands?

friday coffee date

Overall, I would say that I'm a pretty busy person. I wake up early, teach all day, sometimes coach in the evenings, come home and cook dinner or work or whatever I have planned, sleep, and repeat. I think that it didn't really hit me how truly busy I've been this year until today. The first day that I'm sitting home alone by myself. Doing nothing.

Nothin' like a big ol' batch of nothing to prove how not-busy you are, yeah?

My mom says I should appreciate that I have an empty day and enjoy it. But, I don't think I can do that! I miss my people (who are off in California nannying, home for the summer with their families, or entertaining guests who've arrived for graduation...) and I'm sad I won't see some of my people for quite a while.

I also just miss this space! I realized today that it's been  three whole months since I've touched this blog, and I can't believe it! Time just flies by when you're busy.

I don' have a lot to say right now, but I wanted to shout out that I miss all of my blogging people, and I hope you're all well.
